sponsors
IP is sponsored by the New York University School of Social Work; the Division of Social Work and Behavioral Science, Mount Sinai School of Medicine; the Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research, and the Society for Social Work and Research
mission statement
To help social service professionals throughout the world conveniently maintain an awareness of news regarding the profession and emerging scholarship.
goals
- Identify and deliver the highest quality available in each category.
- Regularly deliver an interesting mix of new information.
- Create a more global sense of the profession for users from all locales.
- Serve as a global socialization force for students.
The new Information for Practice (IP) will help us to better meet those goals by incorporating a continuously upgraded site at:
http://www.nyu.edu/socialwork/ip
IP is an extension of our most recent community service project with the same name. The new IP will continue to be a monthly digest (like the old IP). You can subscribe by sending a blank email message to:
join-information-for-practice@forums.nyu.edu
You will receive an email notice each month when a new issue is completed and available on the IP web site described.
While the monthly digest will focus on new grey literature and scholarship, the web site will also include news items from around the world. In addition both the IP web site and digest will also now include a selection of items that are fee based (the journal charges the fee, not us). Our decision to include these items was based on the fact that some may be of such interest to some readers that they will want to pay to obtain them, or access them through a local public library, or email the article’s author for a reprint.

Denise Bronson (Ohio State) published a great paper in the Winter 2006 issue of the APSAC Advisor. She identifies technological, user, and organizational barriers to implementing evidence-based practices and offers solutions for overcoming them. To obtain a single copy of this issue of the newsletter that also has an excellent article by Julia Littell (Bryn Mawr) on using the Campbell Collaboration as a reliabile source of evidence for practice, go to http://apsac.fmhi.usf.edu/publications/mainPub.asp to download the publication form. This is APSAC Advisor, Volume 18, Number 1, Winter 2006.
